The Experience

Leave it to Italy to come up with a poetic name for pasta: farfalle, which translates to butterflies. If you’ve savored the tender delicacies freshly made at your favorite Italian restaurant, you may think it takes a culinary artist to fashion them by hand. Nope: In this live virtual class, Chef Mark Kalix will teach you how to make the pretty pasta right in your own kitchen and pair it with a rich, homemade marinara sauce.

  • Chef Mark will first walk you through making the simple dough. While it rests, he'll show you how to turn tomatoes into a classic marinara sauce using easy-to-find ingredients from the supermarket.
  • Next, you'll learn how to form your dough into the enchanting butterfly shapes that lovingly hold onto sauce.
  • When the class ends, you'll have dinner ready to eat, and the skills to re-create this delectable dish on your own, anytime (lucky you).
Class length: 90 minutes.
We suggest: Gift this class along with our Farfalle Pot Holders, a charming take on the kitchen essential that's designed to look just like their pasta namesake.

Fun Class

Enjoyed Chef Mark. Good to have all your supplies ready and water boiling - class moves fast. Successful plate of pasta at the end!

Making pasta at home is easier than I thought!!

Chef Mark is personable as well as a great teacher. Being able to watch and cook along in real time gave me experience and confidence. His chef's tips and tricks were incredibly helpful. I learned so much! And the bonus was a delicious meal.

A Great Learning Experience

We bought this as a Christmas gift for our young adult sons, and they thoroughly enjoyed it. They are now excited to experiment with different types of pasta. Although they felt a bit stressed at times due to the pace, the final product was delicious.

Great class - we learned alot!

The class met all our expectations! Chef Mark Kalix was easy to understand and follow through the whole class. It was fun and ended with an enjoyable tasty meal.

I'll make this again and again!

This was a fun and well-managed class. Chef Mark is a relaxed and friendly teacher. The prep list was thorough, and we really didn't need to buy much to prepare. In the middle of a huge snowstorm, this was a cozy class to warm up the kitchen and do something fun together as a couple. The recipes were surprisingly easy to follow, and our sauce and pasta were delicious! Why on Earth would we ever buy pasta from the store again? Some deviations from the prep recipe were explained and even expanded upon, so now I have an understanding of multiple approaches to the recipe.

Perfect Family Experience

I bought this experience for my family (sister and both children) that live in different areas of Pittsburgh and Charleston SC. We made this pasta together and had our own family chat while the class was going on. It was so much fun and the food was delicious. We will definitely do this again!

Really Enjoyed

Easy to follow with step by step guidance and friendly chef who was very interactive with class

Very fun experience

We had so much fun doing this class. Only feedback I have would be to clarify the instructions - the ingredient list called for the onion and garlic to be peeled and cut, so we did that ahead, but then the chef showed everyone how he does it. The meal we made was delicious and easy. Thank you chef Mark!

The pasta and marinara class was so much fun!

The class exceeded my expectations. The Chef explained everything thoroughly. My pasta turned out a little gummy, but I will try again another day.

I'm glad I did this.

Chef was a wonderful teacher. The process was easy to follow. He gave clear instructions. He kept things going and friendly. It was a good experience.

how much pasta is made during the farfalle class?

Verified reply from Ashley

Thank you for your question! Enough pasta for about 4-6 servings is made during the class. 3 hungry people would have a bit of leftovers!
