The Experience

You already love focaccia for its mouthwatering crusty-chewy texture and tempting dippability—now you can take your appreciation for the classic Italian flatbread to a whole new level. Focaccia’s lustrous, golden surface is the ideal canvas for the gorgeous edible art that’s all over social media, and you’ll learn how to become a veritable da Vinci of dough in this live virtual class with chef Sydney Willcox.

  • One day (or at least 90 minutes) before class, you’ll get things started by making your dough and completing the first rise (Sydney will walk you through the second rise in class).
  • While your dough is on the second rise, you’ll whip up a savory marinara dipping sauce from scratch and then prepare the vegetables for your decorative toppings—Sydney will provide a list of topping suggestions, but please do bring your own favorite cheeses, veggies, and any picturesque (and palatable!) addition that will unleash your culinary creativity.
  • Once the dough is stretched and dimpled, Sydney will demonstrate various decorating techniques and you’ll get in touch with your artistic side as you create your masterpiece of edible art.
Class length: 90 minutes.
Comes with the class: Our DIY Focaccia Garden Art Kit includes all the baking essentials, from bread flour to yeast and seasonings, and even food tweezers for your artwork. You’ll supply your own toppings, but you won’t need any special bread-making equipment; Sydney will teach you how to achieve the perfect dough consistency with your hands and a little elbow grease—just like a real Italian nonna.

For this class, you'll need the included DIY Focaccia Garden Art Kit, a mixing bowl, an optional stand mixer with dough hook, a rubber spatula, plastic wrap, a small bowl of cold water, a small mixing bowl and fork, an optional pastry brush, 2 forks or a large metal spoon, a baking dish (9x13 or 18x13), a cutting board, a knife, a pot, a wooden spoon as well as the ingredients listed in the link below.
