Fun, Educational and Tasty!

Chef Mark was welcoming, down to earth. Felt like you were welcomed into his home and kitchen. The food preparation instruction was easy to follow and engaging. He shared tips from his own experiences along the way. Why only 4 stars? -- Time management. -- We did not get to finished product on some of the dishes. The Bleu Cheese wine pairings were not discussed in any detail and then only in the last three minutes. Suggestion: take out the Bleu Cheese material. There's really no cooking preparation other than setting it out before class and finding some crackers to go with it. You could keep it as optional and keep the notes on wine pairings in the pre-class information packet. And then make it clear you will not be covering that during the session. -- In addition, I felt like it was a good 15 minutes into the session before we started any of the actual work. Balancing that with making everyone comfortable and ready is tricky.

Fast paced, but with great rewards

This is the second class we've taken with Chef Mark. He knows what he's doing, and appeals to my preferred way of cooking (senses and preferences over measurements). We had everything we needed ready before class based upon the thorough instructions provided. The class itself was a bit hectic (especially the first hour), and would benefit from some fine tuning. There's currently either too much to cover, or too little time to fit it all in. It would be helpful to either add a 1/2-hour, or delete the wine section in favor of focusing time on the food, which is where Chef Mark really shines. There was so much to cover that we fell way behind making the desert. However, we learned new things, enjoyed spending time together, and really liked the food! We'll definitely keep the prep handout, since it includes the recipes and wine pairings. Overall a bit hectic, but I'd still recommend giving it (and other classes by this instructor) a try.

Total Waste of Time and Money

This was a gift from our daughter and is our 6th Uncommon Goods Experience class. These pre-class instructions were filled with typos and other errors (half-cup of chocolate vs. half-pound). The instructor was a poor teacher; his instructions were vague ("turn up the heat", "add some cream", etc.) - so vague that the dessert did not set, which was a waste of money spent on ingredients. And there was ABSOLUTELY nothing taught about pairing wine with food. The instructor cared more about touting his culinary experience and his preferences for wine than actually helping anyone in the class learn anything. The wines chosen to be highlighted were disgusting and 1 of the 3 bottles purches for the class wasn't even discussed. This was by far the worst Uncommon Experiences class we've ever had. Please don't waste your money and time. I wish I could get my daughter's money back for her. It was SOOOOO bad.

Response from merchant

Thank you for sharing your feedback. I’m so sorry to hear how disappointing this class was, especially given your past positive experiences and that it was a gift from your daughter. This is not what you should expect from an Uncommon Experiences class. We appreciate you taking the time to share these details, and we’re following up directly to look into this further and see how we can help.

Such a fun experience!

My husband and I loved this! We really enjoyed the dishes we made and tried some new things we would not have tried otherwise. Looking forward to our next experience!

So much fun!!

I gifted this experience to my husband for his 69th birthday, which was this past weekend. We love visiting the winerys in our state and have found pairings to be a good experience, so I thought this would be a good fit. I was right! He gathered the wines and I gathered the ingredients. We played suos chefs in the afternoon and were therefore able to pay a lot of attention to Chef Mark through out the class. The class just flew by! Everything was excellent. To be honest we haven't even eaten the chocolate mousse yet, we were too full after the class! I would do this again, and I would not hesitate to gift other experiences to family members.

Absolutely worth it!

I really like to purchase the Uncommon Experiences classes, and this was a winner! Chef Mark's class was a journey into new dishes (that will be on repeat in our house) and how well the suggested wines paired with each dish. Cooking should be about trying something new, whether it's a new ingredient combination, a new method of cooking or new flavor combinations. Bravo, Chef Mark! You hit the proverbial nail on th head on all three in this class!!! Highly recommend!
