Join Shan for this live virtual class where you’ll learn the secrets to making authentic Chinese soup dumplings, from simmering the broth to creating the masterful pleats that top each blissfully steamed pocket of deliciousness.

  • Having grown up in China, Shan is the perfect instructor to share her extensive knowledge of traditional Chinese cooking—including techniques that will turn even the most novice dumpling dabbler into a pleating pro.
  • You’ll prepare the dough an hour before class, and when the class begins, you’ll dive right into making the vegan broth and mushroom-veggie filling.
  • Shan will teach you how to roll out your dough, assemble the dumplings—soup included!—and then finish them off with those classic pleats before steaming them to perfection.
  • This is an action-packed class that’s most fun with two cooks in the kitchen—think date night in, girls’ night, or a family night that ends with ready-to-slurp goodness.

About

Growing up in a small village in China, Shan Shan learned to cook from her parents and grandmother, who excelled in the spicy dishes of their native Sichuan region. Although Shan earned a degree in International Business, food remained her first love. After moving to the United States, she launched her social media channel to share her passion for all kinds of cuisine, especially the authentic recipes she learned at home. In teaching others to cook, Shan's inspired by her grandmother's advice: "The secret to a long life and strong heart is love of all things. It's the most important ingredient in any recipe."

In addition to the included Chinese Soup Dumpling Kit, you will need a large pot, a medium saucepan, a large and wide skillet, a 9x13 pan, a spatula/spoon, a strainer, measuring cups and spoons, bowls and plates for mise en place, chopsticks, a medium bowl and plastic bag, a bench scraper/spatula/paring knife, a chef's knife, a cutting board, a wine opener, an optional tortilla press, optional food processor, and optional kitchen scale as well as the ingredients listed in the link below.

Fantastic experience for the whole family!

I bought this for my little family as a gift. We love eating good food and it's time we learn to make some of our favorites. Shan is a fabulous teacher and kept adults and kids engaged. She is very encouraging and has excellent tips for making a difficult dumpling seem easy. We all really enjoyed the experience and the delicious food!

Entertaining But Tough

This was gifted to us by my sister and we were excited and nervous by the idea of soup dumplings, which are one of my partner's favorite foods. The instructor was great but there were some things that could have been improved, e.g., giving options for making the dough without using boiling water if you were going to do it multiple hours ahead of time. It felt like they were trying to fit a multi hour process into an hour and a half and maybe that just isn't possible. Or maybe we're just bad chefs? Hard to say? But our previous class we did through UG was a lot of fun and delicious and this one, while still fun, did end up with us having to come up with a different option for dinner.

So fun!

My wife and I LOVED this. There was so much interaction (only if you wanted to) with the group from the instructor. We learned how to make dumplings and some history about them. This is such a great idea for a date night. You should definitely try this!

Second Class

I bought this class after having an excellent experience with her Hot Pot class a few years ago. She is well-organized, the directions are clear and easy to follow, and the results delicious!

So much fun!

The instructor was personable, knowledgeable, and had a good sense of humor. She went at a pace everyone could follow. She even checked in to see if she was going too fast or slow. I would take additional classes from this instructor. She mentioned a hot pot class, and my husband and I would absolutely take it. We enjoyed doing this in our own home so very much. Great camera set up made it feel fantastic. The one thing, I would like the spotlight to be on the instructor. Like a big screen view in Zoom.

Who knew that soup dumplings were so easy to get into

This was a really instructional video, a lot of fun, and the dumplings were delicious. I had no idea that the dough was as easy as it was, and while the pleating was difficult, it wasn't as much of a problem as I thought it would be. Shan really made this fun and informational.

Really fun class!

Class was a lot of fun, and Shan is a great teacher. She sprinkled in some history of soup dumplings, which really added to the experience. Only change I'd suggest is to make sure it's clear in the emails ahead of time that the dough needs to be prepped in advance. Having the ingredients pre-chopped would really help, too, since the class is pretty fast-paced. Otherwise, a great class, and my wife and I are excited to use our new cooking skill!

Such a fun class!

My husband and I had a wonderful time. Shan Han was an excellent teacher. She clearly explained and showed us how to do each step. The moderator was very helpful and made sure everyone's questions were answered. And the dumplings were so delicious!! Definitely recommend.

Deep dive into Chinese Dumplings

Shan Han did a great job teaching the class. She explained everything clearly and gave some interesting background about herself and her cooking experiences. The ingredients were easy to come by and created a great tasting dumpling. There was a fair amount of prep work involved and it did take the full two hours of class to complete the dumplings. If you're up for the job, the reward is a great dumpling.
