Great craftsmanship at an awesome price
Kia ora, this sculpture was used to decorate my father's grave in Herekino, New Zealand. We unveiled his headstone at the same time and I couldn't be happier with how it looks on his grave. He always wanted to be different and this is just perfect. The 'serpent' faces our mountain Orowhana, which is also said to resemble a taniwha or a 'dragon' of some kind.

Great lawn feature for my waterfront yard
The craftsmanship and overall quality are excellent. I have put rust preventative on the metal but I live on the Intra coastal waterway which is salt water and fear that the sculpture may be eaten up in a few years.

Very cool!
Our dragon greets me as I pull in the drive - floats about our monkey grass! I smile every time he pops into view!

I will be buying more of Mr.Cook's sculptures
When I unwrapped my dragon and placed it in sunshine I was overwhelmed with the finish almost like copper and over time I'm hoping the finish will rust well Truly beautiful!

We love our sea serpent but we are very concerned about it rusting so much after only one summer season outdoors. How can we protect the finish on the product?

Thank you for your question, if you've decided that your sea serpent has reached the perfect patina you can always use a sealant. These are available at many hardware stores and work very similarly to spray paint, and you simply give him a thorough was in the sealant and he should be a companion for years to come.

Is this sea serpent available facing left or can it be used facing either direction.
Verified reply from Marisa
Thanks for your question. Chris Crooks' garden sculptures are meant to be looked at from any angle. You can face this Sea Serpent any direction you want, and it will look great!

Are there places in Arizona, specifically the Flagstaff area where I might look at one of these sculptures?

I have a couple of perfect places for this. My only hesitation is concern regarding potential theft. Is there a good way to secure this besides the stakes? Thanks!
Verified reply from Marisa
What a world, where our dear customers have to worry about Sea Serpent stealers! The wise Serpent weeps at the thought. We searched the internet and came up with a few solid-sounding ideas. 1) Don't call attention to them by lighting them up at night. 2) Put up "Beware of Dog" signs. 3) Install sensors that turn on lights and/or sound alarms when they sense movement. 4) Secure the pieces to immovable objects, using wire cables (or if you can make them less visible, chains) with locks. 5) Devise an incantation that will make the Serpent come alive and eat anybody who tries to steal it! Or at least, tattle on them.

Your catalogue shows this item as $160.00, on-line it's $180.00. WHY????
Verified reply from Cassie, Community Moderator
Our previous catalogs did list this item at $160, however the price has since increased. Since our last catalog stated that the price would be honored through September 30, the new price is now in effect. The current catalog (which we began shipping on October 1) includes the new, updated price. We apologize for any inconvenience.

can the sea serpent be affixed to the rail of a fence using the mounting brackets only?
Verified reply from Cassie, Community Moderator
The included hardware won't allow for this kind of mounting, but the artist says it is an option if you want to put a little extra work into giving your Sea Serpent a happy home affixed to a fence. He told us, "It would be best to cut the mounts even with the bottom. The main issue would be to have enough clearance between the body of the piece and the fastener head to screw it in. My advice is to take the piece to a local hardware store to get advice. Optimally, a spacer should inserted into the bracket through which the fastener can be inserted." We hope these words of wisdom direct from the designer help answer your question!

Is this sculpture three dimensional on both sides or just one? In other words, can I reverse the direction of the head without having it look odd? Thanks!
Verified reply from Cassie, Community Moderator
The sculpture does have a bit of dimension to it, but the scales are all angled in the same direction, and would be inverted if the head was turned around. The scales will look best when your Sea Serpent is looking forward.
