Exceeds Expectations
Well made metal lawn ornament with spikes to hold it in place. Looks fantastic in our coastal garden. Friends and family have all fallen in love with our kraken. We put a solar spotlight behind the head and it looks great at night!

Yes and I have!
I was pleasantly surprised at the thickness of the metal! I live by the ocean and anything that is outside in the salt air Rust's very quickly. I think this will be around for a while!!! I think the steaks could have been a little longer given the weight of the pieces!

Is it painted on both sides.

The metal is aged with a bright rust patina and is the same on both sides.

2 questions actually... 1. What is the length of the stakes for installing the octopus? 2. I also live next to a saltwater bay. Will I have to paint it in order to preserve it (I'm guessing yes, but I wanted to confirm)? Thanks.

Thanks for asking! 1. The stakes are 6". 2. Yes, corrosion will occur over time. Chris Crooks (the maker) responded with the following recommendations: The best thing to do would be to paint it. It is best to prime the metal first with this: https://www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-7769830-Stops-12-Ounce-Primer/dp/B000PIKJAS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496267173&sr=8-1&keywords=rust-oleum+rusty+metal+primer Any primer will work, but the above is designed to stop the rust already present. Then you can spray paint it with any exterior spray paint. The artist recommends Rustoleum brand. They have a lot of great finishes such as hammered metal. It is available in many colors: https://www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-7213830-Hammered-Finish-12-Ounce/dp/B00128G170/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496267652&sr=8-1&keywords=hammered+metal+spray+paint

How thick is the metal? And what is the finish? We live next to the ocean and things rust/deteriorate so fast so metal thickness is an issue. I'll paint to first to extend the life if the finish is compatible.

Thanks for the question. The piece is roughly half an inch thick. The finish is absolutely compatible with painting. It must first be primed with a Rustoleum primer. Then there are many Rustoleum colors to chose from for the top coat. Here are some helpful directions as well. Priming: Shake your can of Stops Rust Rusty Metal Primer spray for 1 minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Hold the paint can 12-14" from the piece. Spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Apply 2 or more light coats a few minutes apart, then allow 15 minutes to dry. Top coat: Next, shake the can of Rustoleum spray paint for 1 minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Hold the paint can 12-14" from the piece and apply 2-4 light coats. Spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Allow 15 minutes to dry between coats. Allow the piece to dry completely for approximately 24 hours before using.
