The average game of chess takes roughly 40 moves. All those moments thinking (and lingering a liiittle too long on a piece) add up, so finding time to sit down to a battle for the board isn't always easy. This pretty oak set solves that problem, while doubling as a delightful piece of home decor. Designed to hang vertically, the chess pieces stay put, so players can take turns in passing. Several nights since you moved your knight? No problem. A special marker indicates the last move, so one opponent can easily pick up where the other left off. Hang it in a hall to make your move part of a daily routine, or display it where it will spur impromptu games (and conversation). Made in Huntsville, Alabama.

Perfect family bonding gift!

This chess board is beautiful! I hung it on the wall amongst other art and it looks lovely. It is in the hallway and my husband and 14 year old son play a competitive game over several days as they pass by. It's really fun to watch and great bonding for them!

Now my dad and my son can play chess, even on separate schedules. We have it hanging in the kitchen, and when one walks by and sees the other has made a move, they stop and mark their own next move with the wooden piece frame that comes with the set. This means Grandpa can make a move when he gets up, and teenager can respond when he gets home from school. Or, they just stand there and play together while I'm cooking. The board isn't super big, but is easy to see. Easy to put up, and looks nice in the wall.

This brings the old games back!

This is actually pretty well made and unique. It took two products to get good quality, as some of the pieces didn't come out right. Not a huge deal, mostly cosmetic. It is on the expensive side, but my husband and I love playing each other throughout the week. We're both on shift schedules and can't sit down to play a game of chess for over an hour. This probably takes us a week or two to complete a game, but it's still really fun!

Love, love, love this game. Bought it for my sister for Christmas and she loves it too!! I think I will buy another for my house too.

Quality control issues, bad pieces

Opted for the large size. Wood tones are classy looking. Looks great on the wall. Was a gift for my spouse. Shame on me for buying 4 months in advance however, as there are some quality control issues. Biggest problem was with black pieces - black king isn't easily distinguishable, and was missing black queen altogether, received one too many black bishops instead. Way past return window, had to paint to convert a bishop to a queen and make the king distinguishable. Needless to say it looks lousy but was only way to make this playable. The other surprisingly lesser problem is at least one third of the holes seem too small and can't accommodate the pieces flush in the holes as it is too tight of a fit; not sure if this will improve with time. A chess set is only as good as it's pieces, and if you don't have a full correct set of pieces (and they don't move easily) it's kind of a nonstarter. Would have exchanged had I been within return window and not have had to resort to permanently modifying the pieces myself. This set had a lot of potential but due to the quality control lapses, I wouldn't recommend this.

Teenagers Connect w/ Mom & Dad

We placed this on our kitchen wall. My husband and sons (me too sometimes) make a play when they walk hy, grab a snack, etc. It generates a lot of discussion and opportunity to teach a classic game. It also teaches patience, critical and logical thinking, and planning ahead. Love this game!

Unique and fun wall decor

This is the perfect gift for a chess lover. It's pretty, unique, and fun. Only thing to note is that there isn't a checkerboard pattern which may bother some people who are used to having that. One of the pieces had very minimal contrast between the light and dark wood so it is hard to tell what piece it is, so I plan on reaching out to customer service to see about getting a replacement pawn.

the larger one comes with a place for the pieces while they aren't being played on the board but the smaller one doesn't come with that making actual usage of the game a bit difficult

I would think twice about purchasing this item agin

We purchased the larger 18x18 board which looks great on the wall. A few concerns about the chess set. The frame is not built very well and too lightweight/small for the size of the piece. Whey my second one came one of the corners was a little loose. I was able to add some glue and clamp back together so hopefully will stay tight. (I really didn't want go through the entire return process again and it was not nearly damaged as the first one I received). I did noticed that some of the chess pieces fit extremely tight into some of the holes so not sure if that is an issue with the size of the chess piece or the size of the hole. I do like the piece but seems a bit pricey for the quality you get.

Hello, to whomever may be able to help. We received this great, beautiful chess game as a gift some years ago and now we have ONE missing piece. For some time now we hadn't wanted to accept that it was really missing as we believed that it would "turn up" (it hasn't) so now we are looking for a way to get this just this one specific replacement piece but we don't know how/where to begin the process of getting a replacement. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Are the squares/spaces in a checkerboard colored pattern? It doesn't look like it from the photos. It would be hard to play if all the spaces were the same color.
