Shelly Klein lives and works in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design. She earned a BFA with an emphasis in painting, and has since divided her time between painting and designing for her product line. The two disciplines often overlap: Shelly’s painted illustrations are used to decorate her product designs. Working with Uncommon Goods has helped Shelly produce pieces beyond the manufacturing capabilities of her own studio—and it allows her to connect with a large audience of art lovers from around the world.

Personalized Mugs for Christmas Party Guests
I ordered the personalized mugs for each person invited over for a Christmas party. I found as I invited more friends, I had to place 2 more orders. My plan is to slip a few scratch off tickets in each cup and pass them out sometime during the party. I was also thinking of using them as place settings at the dinner table with a napkin sticking out of each cup, but I think the scratch offs will be more fun. Instead of using the family name on the back of the cups, I added text about the upcoming party. I hope my guests will enjoy them!

Love the idea, but mugs are too big!
I love the idea and how the design looks, however, the mugs are too large for us. Especially for our 2 kids for whom we made some. It would be ideal if you offered different mug sizes.

What size shipping boxes do you recommend if I were to ship these out individually after I receive them?

We recommend using a 6" x 6" x 6" box for each mug to ensure proper padding and protection. However, instead of waiting for your order to arrive and then packing each one individually, we offer Multiple Address Shipping. This means you can place one order with several items on our website and have them sent to different addresses. This way, you don't have to create separate orders for each item. Plus, you can add free gift messages to each item at checkout, and by sending it with us, the package will be in its original packing, ensuring it arrives in great condition!

The image for "see all options" shows that hair color can be selected yet I do not see how to do that when ordering?

Once you select how many you would like to order, you will see the Family info (the name and date that will go on all the mugs) decollapsed for you to fill. Once that's complete, if you keep scrolling, you will see a little arrow to open up each mug you are going to personalized. Unfortunately, you have to select each feature before the next one pops up. Once you select gender, character and skin color you will then get the option for hair color.

Can we print the person's full name under the cartoon body instead of just the first name?

How are the images placed onto the mugs, as in what is the transfer process?

The process is called sublimation. Through heat transfer, the printed image is transferred to the mug.

The 12 character count on the family name includes "The" and the space between "the" and the name. As such, the family name can only actually only be 8 letters or less. Is that correct? Seems unusually restrictive/short for a personalized item.

It is correct that the 12-character count would include "The" and a space if you choose to include them. It isn't required, however, and you can utilize the 12 characters however you would like!
