Tucked away in the Spanish-colonial style streets of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, artist Alfredo Garcia-Lucio works with Mexican craftsmen to create his one-of-a-kind designs. He began his creative journey in Denver, Colorado, where he worked as a photographer and designer in print, fabric, and space design. Since then, he's moved his operation to San Miguel de Allende, where his sustainable designs made of recycled materials can most authentically embody his Mexican heritage as well as the artisanal traditions commonly used there.

Distinctive glassware
These beautiful mouth-blown are made of recycled glass- that's the first plus. They are substantial and heavy and feel good to hold. And an added bonus is the varied colors. Our table comfortably sits six so that is often our guest list size, thus each person gets their own colored glass-a useful feature.

I have bought two sets of these glasses!
If you like the beauty of hand blown glass and bright colors, you'll love these glasses. We use them both as water glasses and stemless wine glasses. They're handsome in the winter and summer, and nice enough for fancy parties or casual outdoor entertainment. We bought one set and decided after a couple of years to get a second set. They're not thin glassware, they're heavier, which we like.

thicker, stouter than appears
-good for any cool/cold/room temp beverages, can be used for alcohol-wine, beer, cocktails etc if you want to avoid a stemmed glass -thicker and stouter, not as refined if you're looking for thinner, smoother glassware -handmade so there are some rougher, uneven edges where it was dipped for the multicolor gradual heavy to lighter color look

Bigger and better than expected
These are really hefty, good-sized glasses. I love the colors with the exception of the orange glass which ended up with a solid orange coloration rather than a traslucent coloration. This is my only complaint, which doesn't detract from the glass's usefulness. I use them daily.

Is it possible to order a single glass? I had a set of 6 and one glass was broken over the holidays. I just love them, and would like to replace the one that broke.

I notice that the one complaint or con with these glasses is the size of the opening. It it possible to custom order a set larger than the ones offered?

It is not possible to custom order these glasses. Each is unique and they will vary, but they should be approximately 4.5" H x 2.5" diameter.

How thick is the rim of the glass where your mouth touches it. i was concerned if it's too thick it might make it awkward to drink from . the description and photo indicates thick glass. I was hoping the thickness tapers to thiner at the rim?

These glasses are not that thick at the rim. We have had these in our collection for many years, and we don't think we've ever gotten a complaint about them being too thick to be comfortable to drink from. There are 117 reviews of them on the item page, and almost everyone just loves them!

The color is added while the recycled glass is being blown. There is no painting, dipping, or lacquering involved.

Why is hand-washing recommended? Will they really be damaged in a dishwasher?

The extreme heat in a dishwasher is quite damaging. It causes colors to fade, decals to peel off, and has even been known to melt some plastic utensils and dishware. The ombre color could, over time, wear away a bit in the dishwasher, which is why we recommend hand-wash only for these glasses.

Is this glassware lead-free? Can't assume so since it is made in Mexico where glassware is not always lead free. I just received them as a gift and would love to use them if they check out. Will wait to hear from you.
