The Experience

There’s a sumptuous range of coffees out there, but how many of us know what we’re looking for in an amazing cup of joe? Join professional roaster and brewer Julien Langevin for a live virtual experience where you’ll discover secrets to tasting coffee the way the experts do.

  • Learn the side-by-side cupping technique that pros use to evaluate beans and brews.
  • Discover the importance of a bean’s "terroir," which includes everything from growing conditions to cultural influences.
  • Practice five rounds of tasting to identify subtle notes of fragrance, body, and flavor (think dark chocolate, blackberry, and cinnamon).
  • Reveal the origin and profile of each sample and find out how closely your own appraisal matches the real thing.

Comes with the class: Our Blind Taste Test Coffee Kit includes five hand-selected coffees from around the world, sampling cups, tasting forms, and a detailed flavor wheel. To ensure you receive the freshest coffee, we’ll ship the kit to arrive one week before your scheduled class date.

Julien Langevin's fascination with coffee began with a college job in a café and eventually led to the world of professional coffee roasting and competitive coffee tasting. Realizing the value of years of knowledge, Julien created their own coffee education platform and began teaching classes. "I love seeing people get excited about coffee," they say, "Because I'm so excited about it!" Julien acknowledges that coffee tasting can feel intimidating for people who aren't in the industry, and they aim to break down those barriers and make coffee tasting approachable and fun.

For this class you'll need a kitchen scale or measuring spoons, a 1.2 liter kettle or pot, 2 additional mugs of any size, 2 spoons: preferably soup spoons, but teaspoons will also work, and a pen or pencil for notes

Great experience

From start to finish this was a great experience - good support on the ordering side, and a professional experience during the actual tasting with a good balance of personal exploration and expert knowledge sharing. We purchased this as a gift for both ourselves and a set of friends to connect over a shared experience long-distance. We all had a great time!

Such a fun class!

The coffee tasting was really fun! Learned a lot about the different ways to taste and flavors. I like that it came with the cups, mat and tasting guides. Only wish we had a little more time to guess where the coffees were from before the reveal.

We are coffee lovers and during the class really got a chance to experience it in a new way! I enjoyed learning more about what MAKES the coffee darker, fruitier, etc both pre and post roasting. I do feel it was about 30% of the time just advertising for the company providing the company, which is not the greatest when I already paid for the class and coffee. I would have liked more time hearing about coffee overall and less about a specific brand.

Great way to deepen your love of coffee

This was such a fun experience! I bought it for my husband for Christmas and we both enjoyed learning how to appreciate different coffee varieties and roasts. The materials were helpful in putting words to what we were smelling and tasting, and the instructor was knowledgeable and friendly.
