What Makes It Uncommon

Yes, Queen

Meet King Shakey, who's afraid of bees, trees, and even his own knees--which is why he moves so cautiously, one square at a time. Characters, stories, activities, and imagery help kids as young as 3 learn the moves, tactics, and language of chess. This delightful, creative approach to the game of kings has been used in schools and endorsed by chess masters and homeschooling parents alike.

Once they've worked through the basics, choose the expansion kit to level up your child's knowledge. This second storybook contains nine more strategy filled tales featuring new friends like the Cranky Princess and Casanova the Dragon. The level 2 box set includes the storybook, plus additional playing pieces and activity books.

The adventure continues with Mango the Giraffe, King Richard, and Beatrice Elephant in the level 3 expansion set. An all-new storybook, puzzle book, play pieces, and more help your child understand piece point values, pawn structure, board analysis, and decision making. Grown-ups need no prior chess experience to help kids learn with these materials, so it's fun for everyone. Made in China.

WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD – Small parts. Not for children under 3 years.

Andrew Kashian originally planned to follow in his father's footsteps and become a doctor, but by his senior year of college, he knew that wasn't the game for him. After working as a healthcare consultant for a few years, he found a New York City?based company focused on teaching young children how to play chess. Then he made his move. In his new role, Andrew created Story Time Chess, a board game that takes a more kid-friendly, storybook approach to the strategy-focused pastime.

Learning chess in a different way.

High quality game board, box , and pieces. Good book, but large and hard to manage in my hands. Check out the half dozen reviews by board-gameers (more pro hobbiests than me) I don't play chess, but as a Grandpa the mini-games are good for me and the Grandkids to learn together. Was.happy with the quality, so i had a second set sent to my sons home for Father's Day. Only thing i would change is to break out the mini stories, mini games into a separate , smaller, book.

Chess for kids

My granddaughter loves it. It was a family affair all learning together.

Excelent for teaching kids complex chess strategies

The thing I like the most about this set is that it focus in the beginning of the kid learning how to lose gracefully. Afterward, it teaches the kid piece value and how to use it to their advantage, also how to think about the consequences of moving a piece to a location. It builds up on the first expansion set and the stories and exercises are just as great. The only downside from this is the 3 "food" paper pieces. I've gotten the impression they only put 3 to have something tangible for the set without having to include something more costly like a couple of extra rooks, bishop or knights. One of these "food" would already have been enough to teach the 3 chapters about piece values and keep the story just as interesting.

Excelent for teaching kids complex chess strategies

Our daughter loved this set. It comes with an extra queen for pawn promotion and the stories are great. Aside from pawn promotion it also teaches other good chess strategies such as: - Controlling the center (they call it the kitchen for the kids to learn) - Castling (they call it "put your king into the castle") - Connecting the rooks (they call it make the rooks say hello) - Say thank you and please (good for overall raising good people) - Say "good game" at the end of the game (being a good sport)

Excelent for teaching kids complex chess strategies

This is a great gift for kids who don't know how to play chess since it teaches all the basic moves in a fun and easy way. Even our daughter (7), who already knew how to move enjoyed it but she bored through the exercises. If your kid doesn't know how to play chess, that's clearly a great choice. If your kid knows how to play, it is still a great choice, but only if you can get also the other 2 expansion sets where they learn advance tactics. *Pros* - The characters make the stories come to life and entertain the kids even during normal gameplay - The stories and exercises are very didactic and engaging - The pieces are of a good size and quality *Cons* - Just teaches the basic so if your kid knows a bit of chess, is only worth if you buy the other expansion sets.

Great Product for Beginning Rules

Our nephew turned 5 shortly after receiving this. He's very bright and enjoys playing games a lot. My husband thought he works enjoy chess but he didn't know how to reach him and neither of his parents play. This was perfect. They're all learning together and playing it every day. Only negative was that the instructions don't include some of the more advanced chess strategies/rules so that when they went to play elsewhere, opponents were making moves the parents didn't even know were part of the game or legal moves.

A fun way to learn chess

A game to learn a game. Very clever concept. I wish I had this growing up as I never learned chess. Might need to purchase an extra one for me. #sweepstakes

Wonderful way to introduce your kids to chess!

My son loves this. The way the rules are introduced make it easy for kids to grasp the concept of chess and be able to play. It's still a work in progress, but my son grasped it in no time, and loves playing! #sweepstakes

I recommend for anyone who wants to teach chess to a little

The story line that explains the game pieces is super cute! The stories are short enough to keep the attention of a 5 year old, and they included key phrases that are easy to remember. For example, the way the knight moves is gallop gallop step to the side.

I would recommend this product highly.

The game has already been pulled out to play multiple times since Christmas. It keeps the kids interactive with parents and each other, not on a tablet.
