Shelly Klein lives and works in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design. She earned a BFA with an emphasis in painting, and has since divided her time between painting and designing for her product line. The two disciplines often overlap: Shelly’s painted illustrations are used to decorate her product designs. Working with Uncommon Goods has helped Shelly produce pieces beyond the manufacturing capabilities of her own studio—and it allows her to connect with a large audience of art lovers from around the world.

Perfect Dorm Room Art
Bought my son one three years ago for his freshman year in college. Just recently bought my daughter one for her freshman year. They both enjoy it!. It also caught their roommate's eye. It is of very nice quality. I would highly recommend this item to anyone!

Personalized Family Print Close To Our Hearts
3 Years ago, we bought a 4-figure family portrait. Since the addition of our newborn, 6 weeks ago, we upgraded and purchased a 5-7-figure family portrait. These portraits easily tell our family's story for visitors and it is a fun way to do so. Moreover, it is something that our son enjoys seeing everyday and I hope our daughter will share the same enthusiasm in a few months when she is more mobile. My wife and I love it as it was created with love and care.

Since the print was a gift, we were excited to see it ourselves (me and the kids). It's not too big or small and is a wonderful item to hand in many places. it is a fun design, simple, yet enjoyable. The ability to add our two rescue rabbits to the picture sealed the deal!

The flowers (P1) show up in black on the proof but the samples have colorful flowers. How do I add color to the flowers?

The flowers can be any of the "hair" colors. Blonde and auburn are nice choices for the flowers. If you don't select a color, the default will be brown.

I'm thinking of this art for our Mimi...we have a standard poodle, can one of the dogs look more like a poodle and can I list the grandkids names on the art work?

P12 and P16 are poodles, and P16 is a Standard Poodle. However, it may not resemble the poodle you have in mind! We're not able to further customize this print, especially during the holidays, so adding the grandkids' names is not something we can do, unfortunately.

Our family of five fur babies includes a Bob-tailed cat. Can the tail be truncated on one of the chubbier cats? Or do you offer a frontal view of a cat sans tail?

How neat! Bob-tailed cats are gorgeous! Unfortunately, we cannot alter the size or shapes of any of the characters we offer. The artist has only provided us with front-facing humans and sideways animals.

Hello! Your art is so wonderful - I can't wait to give a print to my husband for his birthday! We have a pet turtle (I'm thrilled that you offer one!) and I was wondering if she could be colored green on a print? If it is in fact possible, the olive color you offer for clothing is great. Thanks!

Thanks for the question. After you enter your people, then enter the corresponding pet (P5 for the awesome turtle!). Then, only select the clothing option, and find "olive" and click that. Do not alter any other option for P5 (hair color, etc., only the clothing option). When you click preview after entering the rest of the information, you will see an exact rendering of your picture.

I see that the characters cannot be adapted at all (e.g., put a pair of glasses on a character without one), but I was wondering if it is reasonable to think that I could simply draw glasses on a character. Is there a specific writing utensil that might make it possible to look relatively natural? What is "Archival Pigment Ink", the ink that is listed in the "Made From" section?

Thanks for your questions. Archival ink is an ink which is designed to resist fading and weathering . As for drawing on your print, in theory, you could draw something on the paper, but we cannot guarantee the results of doing so.

Do you have plans to add any girls with curly hair, Afros, or braids? I see that a couple adult females have curly hair, but not a single one of the little girls looks like MY daughters. I love that you have such a variety of skin tones, but not having any curly-hair options seems like a bit of an oversight.
