What Makes It Uncommon

Chill Rock

Stow Arra David and Anne Johnson's chillable coasters in your freezer, and when it's thirst-quenching time, these rock-solid, anti-tip marvels will keep your beverage cans or bottles cold and upright. Each one's made of a different variety of reclaimed, New Hampshire granite, so sippers can easily identify their beverage. When you lift your drink off the cork center, the robust coaster will stay where it belongs instead of sticking to the vessel. Foam-clad bottoms prevent table scratches.

The ash wood and aluminum caddy, sold separately, keeps the coasters securely housed, and the sea stone handle makes it easy to tote. For every natural stone they gather, makers Arra David and Anne Johnson "replant" a new stone to be tumbled in the ocean over time. Handmade in Windham, New Hampshire.

During lifetimes spent around New England's forests and seacoast, Arra David and Anne Johnson have become masters of bringing the outdoors in. Stone, sun, wind, rain, and waves provide their raw materials. Arra and Anne transform them into well-designed, innovative works of handmade art with the help of a group of dedicated artisans they lovingly call "rockers." "We work together as a closely knit family," says Arra. "We all put our hearts, brains, muscles, and fingertips into everything we build." They use ethically forested wood, and replace each stone gathered from the water with a quarry rock that will eventually become another worn beauty.

Bottle Coaster Cutout: 2.5" diameter; fits most tall 12-ounce bottles.

Can Coaster Cutout: 2.65" diameter

Individual Coaster: 3.88" L x 3.88" W x 1.25" H

Coasters Stacked in Stand: 5" L x 5" W x 8.5" H; weighs approx. 6.36 lbs.

Store coasters in the freezer for at least thirty minutes prior to using. Coasters can be expected to keep beverages chilled for approximately thirty minutes.

Cans will not fit in the Bottle Chilling Coasters and bottles will not fit in the Can Chilling Coasters.

Disappointed

The bottom is not stone; it is a flimsy felt-type covering. The beer bottles sit on this warm surface and also, in our case, don't touch the stone sides of the coaster. As such, the coasters do nothing to keep beer cold. We returned the product.

Both the bottle (Dia 2.5") and can (Dia 2.65 ") coasters should fit a traditional pint glass (Dia 2.375"). However, use caution as it won't be a snug fit because the coasters were not designed to hold a glass.

Would the can coasters keep a bottle chilled as well? I know the can diameter is larger, but I don't know if that makes enough of a difference if using with a bottle.
