What Makes It Uncommon

They say low tide is the best time to hunt for treasures along the shoreline. It also happens to be the best time to see a little surprise on Alan Winick’s tide clock. On the clock’s lower half, you’ll see the traditional dial tracking Atlantic tides (two high and two low per day). But on the upper half, you’ll see a beautiful coastal scene with a mechanically animated ocean that rises and falls along with the real tide. At its lowest point, the water will reveal a secret stash of sea glass or a larger-than-life crustacean, depending on which clock you choose. Either way, it’s sure to charm guests at your beach house. Handmade in Connecticut.

With a background in marine biology, philosophy, and a bit of engineering thrown in, Alan Winick interests as an inventor span a wide range of disciplines. His inventions include a baby toy, a rescue device for racing sailboats, and a one-man submarine, among others. He believes that everyone is an inventor, and has at one time or another thought of ways to make or do something in a better way. Great gift for surfer husband

We love this tide clock! It's a beautiful functional art piece, and we love seeing the current state of the tides as shown by the current state of the sand castle on the clock. We live near the beach and it really does help me decide if now or later is a good time for a beach walk. My husband is a surfer so it's good tool for him, too. This is a fun way for us to have our natural world be part of our home.

Good gift

It's hard to find tide clocks for some reason. This is a great version that's practical and adds a bit of whimsy. Love that it's made in the USA, and the gift recipient seemed to like it too.

Perfect gift for those living close to tidal waters!

#sweepstakes. A friend gave us this tide clock as a gift of appreciation for assistance we had provided. It has worked flawlessly for about 15 years. We display it in our kitchen for everyone to see the current state of the tide before going to the beach. It is particularly fun to see the state of tide with the lobster boat on top of the lobster. Our daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter admired it, so we gave one to them this year.
