Be the keeper of your own lighthouse watching the tides change from the shore…or anywhere you display this handcrafted piece. The lovely coastal scene on Alan Winick’s tide clock depicts a watercolor of the East Coast lighthouse of your choice, with a mechanically animated ocean that rises and falls along with the real tide. Below, a traditional dial tracks the hours to the next tide.

  • Choose from 60 lighthouses.
  • Counts the hours until the two high and two low tides each day (in areas with semidiurnal tides).

With a background in marine biology, philosophy, and a bit of engineering thrown in, Alan Winick interests as an inventor span a wide range of disciplines. His inventions include a baby toy, a rescue device for racing sailboats, and a one-man submarine, among others. DON'T DO IT

They put a regular clock mechanism in a tide clock. Tides change by 50 minutes every day and it does not correct for this. If you want an expensive, poorly made toy, go for it.

It's made of plastic and looks very cheap which is really unfortunate considering the price.

Pretty cool item

Not worth the price

The tide clock inner portion was detached from the outer frame when I received it because there were pieces missing to hold it in place. Also, image quality of the product was not good in my opinion.

Could be better artwork

Keep in mind you cannot return this product. The gauge works well. However, the picture of what was supposed to be the lighthouse location I chose, did not reflect my lighthouse. So, if this is important to you, I would pass.

When the batteries die, how do we reset it to the appropriate position?

Hello! The clocks run on AA batteries that need to be changed approximately once a year. The clock will come with instructions on how to set the Tideclock (it functions like a regular time clock). If you need a new copy of the instructions that came with the clock please email support@uncommongoods.com and we can work on getting that to you.

Is the tide clock battery operated

Yes! The tide clocks run on a single AA battery which should last about one year, before you have to replace the battery.

This lighthouse clock is such a great idea. I have a friend that toured all of them off the coast of New London CT but none of the lighthouses he loves are listed. Is there any way I could order a custom one of RaceRock off of Fisher's Island NY or Ledgelight in CT?
