The Lady of the Woods

In Celtic mythology, the birch is a symbol of rebirth, hope, and new beginnings. Jewelry designer Nancy Nelson harnesses some of that transformational energy in creating these shimmering earrings. She began with pieces of fallen birch bark that she altered to form an organic, teardrop shape. She then used lost-wax casting, a technique that has been in use for the past 5000 years, to create perfect, sterling silver and brass copies of the bark. These nature-born pendants are then suspended from gold-filled ear hooks. The result is an eye-catching accessory that is also rich with symbolism. Handmade in Maryland.
