What Makes This Cozy Tea Bookmark Uncommon

Peanut butter and jelly, salt and pepper, a good book and a cup of tea—some things just belong together. One of our top pairings? Gulnara Kydyrmyshova’s felt bookmark and your favorite read.

  • Inspired by vintage teacups, this wool bookmark features an elegant floral cup that marks your page and a tea bag string that hangs out of your book.
  • Gulnara works with artisans in Kyrgyzstan who make each bookmark by hand from locally sourced materials and embroider them with intricate details.
  • An Uncommon Goods exclusive.
  • Handmade in Kyrgyzstan.

location

Kyrgyzstan

When Kyrgyzstan became an independent country in 1991, most of the nation's talented artists fled to larger and more creative cities. But maker Gulnara Kydyrmyshova stayed behind and established a small retail store with the vision to revive Kyrgyz craftsmanship and help relieve her nation of poverty through the trade of handmade felted works. She started by conducting free sewing classes to unemployed women in her community. For over a decade, she has supported local artisans by selling felted handicrafts in her store.
