Digital clocks are everywhere, so why should kids learn to read an old-school timepiece? Easy: because it teaches essentials of counting and fractions and gives youngsters a grasp of the concept of time.

Lauren Vantuykom's clever design uses blocks of color that help little ones understand what hour it is, even when the small hand isn’t pointing right at a number (at 2:30, for example). The minutes are vividly marked off in increments of 5 to 55, and the star-shaped secondhand demonstrates the meaning of clockwise.

Each watch has a Japanese quartz movement and is shock- and water-resistant (though can’t be worn while swimming). The hypoallergenic silicone band is free of lead and BPA, and features your choice of butterflies, sharks, or dinosaurs. Made in China.

Lauren Vantuykom, now a Florida resident, was born and raised in Brussels, Belgium. After spending her career in marketing, she shifted gears when she moved to the US. When the mom of two noticed that her son, diagnosed with ADHD, needed help moving from one task to the next, she looked to the internet for ideas. After seeing parents who used color-coded clocks, she tried it too--with great success. From there, she designed a watch specifically made to help kids understand the concept of time.

Awesome gift for a 5 year-old

This is such a well-designed watch for little ones just learning to tell time. Bought it as a gift for a new 5 year-old, and he loves it! The colors are just as vivid in person as they are in the pictures.

My daughter loves it

This has been such a great tool for helping our daughter learn to tell time. Our son is older and telling time and our daughter grew frustrated at not being able to do it too. This watch has helped her grasp the concept of hours and minutes.

Perfect for my 6 year old daughter

This watch was a Christmas gift. My daughter really wanted a watch (technically she wanted one "like what the big kids wear" - aka an apple watch) and has worn it just about every day since. She absolutely loves it! (even though it's clearly not an apple watch!) They started the "telling time" section at school just after she received it and she said it really helped her understand everything better. Her kindergarten teacher thought it was an awesome watch for her age and stage. It is comfortable, easy to read and understand, and easy for her to get on and off herself.

I was so happy to find a watch for my 6 year old grand child

Children need to know how to tell time by understanding the hours and minutes. Everything is digital and if the power goes out children are lost. I bought it for her for Christmas and she has a curious nature and I am quite sure she will learn to tell time correctly. Also the watch is ultra cute.Thank you for asking me to write a review.

Great for kids learnig to tell time!

We got this for our five year old who has recently become very interested in watches. She loves it! Adorable pattern of butterflies, and the watch face is easy to read but not too big on her wrist.

Purchased for my granddaughter

I purchased this for my (7) yr old granddaughter. She's starting 2nd grade. I believe EVERYONE should know how to tell time on a watch with hands. The watch is VERY cute & I look forward to seeing her reaction. Should be interesting!

Smartly designed to teach timetelling

Purchased the light blue watch as a gift for my son (turning 6), and he was very excited to receive it. He's been quick to pick up time-telling with this tool. I hope it will hold up well to his rough-and-tumble lifestyle. Two weeks in, and so far, so good. I do wish the watch came with less gendered (or even solid colored) bands.

The strap is adjustable from 4.73 inches to 6.38 inches (from 120mm to 162mm), even tiny wrists will fit!
