Catherine Labonte is a glass artist that is inspired by animal behavior and cartoons.

She graduated from "Cegep du Vieux Montreal" receiving both a Fine Art diploma and a Glass Art diploma, 2002.

Since 2002, she has been actively involved in the glass community, creating and exhibiting a variety of original characters in glass.

"Cartoons were always part of my life. As a child I was fascinated by their simplicity and antics. Originally, I began by copying popular cartoons to entertain my friends. Eventually I began creating my own characters, in particular, cats.

"During my studies in fine art, these small characters continued to be my first source of inspiration.

"I could have pursued illustration but I wanted to give three dimensionality to my characters. In order to do this it may have been a more practical choice to use a different medium, but none attracted me more than glass.

"I use glass because of the simple lines, the brightness; it's translucent and colorful nature as well as for the technical challenges. With it I hope to create objects that evoke laughter and wonder in order to lighten the heart."
