Maker Jordan Stern has created a vacuum-insulated vessel that lets you bring your favorite icy pints everywhere. Surprisingly chilly on its own and twice as powerful within a cooler, the double-walled canteen prevents melting mishaps on the go. Slip a standard-size pint container inside, and your favorite dessert stays frozen for hours. Can't finish your butter pecan in one sitting? Just pop out the package and return it to your freezer, without a single dish to wash. Made in China.

Jordan Stern's two passions—the great outdoors and ice cream—were incompatible, at least if he wanted to enjoy them simultaneously. One ice cream-less summer day while Jordan was living in his self-converted camper van in Yosemite, inspiration struck: if the technology existed to keep his food and drinks insulated on the road, why not his favorite frozen treat? After a year of designing, testing, and re-designing, Jordan created the world's first portable, keep-it-frozen ice cream container.

I would buy as a gift and give it with a heads-up.

This is a good solid piece that does the job, however you must be prepared to leave off a pint lid, or keep a piece of plastic wrap to swap out the lid. Also, as I mentioned, you have to be patient getting it screwed shut. I have a small hand so it takes some maneuvering.

Would be great idea

Can not fit every ice cream container or be able to found a re-usable container that will fit inside. The only way to transport ice cream is to fill the container without the original container. As the inside is made of stainless steel I would be careful of storing any acidity foods for a long period time. It cleans out very easy and does not retain food odors with proper maintenance. It is very sturdy and seals very tight.

What's the difference between the mint chocolate chip and the stainless steel

The Mint Chocolate Chip is mint green in color on the outside, the Stainless Steen canteen is not colored on the outside.

Yes, you can! Just pack it in the container and it will hold approximately 14 to 16 oz.

Will you be replenishing the Mint container? Holding cold stainless steel is just uncomfortable. I would wait to buy until you have a choice like the Mint container.

Will ice cream stay frozen in container up to 3 hours outside the freezer?

There are too many variables to give a concrete, "works like this every time" answer for how long the ice cream will last. But we can say that depending on the ice cream brand, ice cream ingredients, freezer temp, and outside temp, that ice cream will stay cold up to 4 hours!
