Key to the Cards

The two groups of cards in a tarot deck are called "Arcana"—a word that means "secrets or mysteries." In this 90-minute class, tarot mentor Holly Buczek will help turn these mysterious images into familiar friends by teaching you the basics of reading and interpreting them. Traditionally, your first tarot deck should be a gift, so this class includes a very special deck as a gift from Holly: the beautiful and inclusive Star Spinner Tarot Cards illustrated by Trung Le Nguyen. (The deck sells for $25 separately, but is included in the price of this class.)

Some people think tarot cards predict the future, but really, they're powerful tools for tuning into your own intuition—and whatever type of inner wisdom you believe. The various cards reflect the situations and changes we all experience every day and can help give us fresh insight into them, so this experience is also a fascinating gift to empower and inspire a friend or family member. Important note: You can go ahead and open the shipping box when your deck arrives, but please do not open the deck itself until she tells you to in class. (She'll explain why.)

Holly Buczek grew up in New Jersey, but, she says, "I have always had a love affair with NYC." Like many who come to the Big Apple, she aimed for a career in show business. She graduated in performing arts from NYU, worked as an entertainer, then became a theater casting director--while giving tarot readings for individuals, parties, and corporate events. (As she points out, "connecting deeply with human energy and intuition is an asset in either field.") Holly's been reading tarot for 20 years and says, "I love every second of it."

A notebook and a pen to take notes (you could use a new notebook that will become your “Tarot Journal” as you continue to learn and practice beyond class), a candle for atmosphere if you'd like, and a tarot deck included in your order (try not to open before class, you’ll see why).

A fun afternoon

Love the tarot deck - beautiful. Holly was a very warm instructor. This class did match the description, and I think it would have been helpful to have more instruction around what different card types meant and how to think through interpretations for different suits, numbers, etc. A few people had their spreads interpreted by Holly for the class, but I didn't feel like I walked away much better able to interpret a spread than when I arrived.

Holly was great.

Holly was a knowlegeable and engaging instructor. One hour is not enough time to learn much if someone is new to Tarot. Also, the chosen deck should have been more traditional (RWS) so newbies were exposed to suit names, colors, and symbols. This deck was way to intuitive for the lesson today.

I have dabbled in tarot and oracle cards for about 4 years and this 90 minute workshop was incredibly helpful! I learned SO many new things and the way Holly explained things or shared her knowledge/perspective on things was different than I had before so things clicked for me quickly! Worthwhile experience!

I thoroughly enjoyed this class 👏🏻 I had been seeking an online intro Tarot reading class, but couldn't find what I was looking for when I was actively searching. I later came across this experience on Uncommon Goods by pure chance, through another site's (Nice News) recommendations on unique holiday gifts. Signed up and so glad I did. Holly is a great teacher. I loved the vibe of the class and how she put all the elements together in a way that was easy to follow, fun, and experiential. Whether you're someone with good knowledge of tarot or just starting, I think the class and its format will appeal to all types of students of tarot. I would love it if Holly offered in the future a class that was a follow-up to this one, one that took a deeper dive into other aspects of tarot study, like the different spreads or its connection to astrology/numerology, etc. Thank you, again! 💜
