What Makes It Uncommon

Sparkling Love

Emilie Shapiro designed her birth-month stacking rings to keep her loved ones close at hand. "I wear a ring for each," she says. "I just love the way they nestle together on my finger."

To create them, she uses the ancient art of lost-wax casting, carving a wax mold and filling it with molten, recycled brass. Once the metal cools in the ring shape, she hammers it to give it a glinty, irregular texture and hand-bezel-sets a birth month–colored cubic zirconia gemstone. Beautiful on their own, their impact increases as you add more. To fit the adjustable ring, just pinch it or open it a bit (gently). Handmade in Long Island City, New York.

“A goal is just a dream with a deadline.”

There was never a moment that Emilie Shapiro didn't consider herself an artist. "Before I could speak," she says, "I expressed myself through what I made with my hands." While getting her degree in metalsmithing at Syracuse University, she spent a summer at Alchimia Contemporary Jewelry School in Florence, Italy. "I have a massive stone collection that I started when I was two," and to spark inspiration, she says, "I usually pull out my drawers of gems and minerals and something catches my eye."

Great present for Mothers

These are great presents for mothers. I have bought my wife one for each of our kids. She loves how they fit her and that they are different enough she can distinguish between each ring.The rings are thin enough she can wear all of them on one finger if she wants. Great way for her to have the kids with her no matter what we are doing.
