How does the sand stay in the box? Can you tip the box, or does the sand fall out?

Good question, thanks! The lid fits down into the base like a puzzle piece, so it forms a tight seal. Simply tipping it to the side will not allow the sand to fall out. Aggressive shaking may cause some sand to come out eventually - but that's if you are really trying to make that happen, which is not very meditative, is it!
