What Makes It Uncommon

It only takes a tap to warm someone's heart. John Harrison and Vanessa Whalen’s digital picture frame lets your friends and family know you’re thinking of them—across town or the globe—with a light touch.

  • Connect the Bluetooth-enabled frame to WiFi and start uploading pictures with the free companion app.
  • The magic happens when you pair two of these touch photo displays: Give the wooden frame a gentle tap and any compatible connected devices* will change color and emit a soft glow. It’s a thoughtful and cheery way to tell someone they’re on your mind.
  • Assign a different light to each person in your circle so you always know who’s saying hi. There are more than 200 colors to choose from.
  • Purchase single or as a set. Frames purchased as a set come pre-paired. Just connect to WiFi and tap away.
  • Made in Kansas.

*Compatible with our original Long Distance Friendship Frame, Long Distance Friendship Lamp, and Wooden Long Distance Friendship Lamp.

Please Note: The vendor has added a paid Remote Touch feature to the app for this product that unlocks the ability to send and receive touches through the app when you are away from your lamp. This feature is completely optional. No subscription is required for the lamp's base functionality—to operate through physical touch.

John Harrison and Vanessa Whalen

I see magic everywhere I look, but making something--then I get to touch the magic.

When John Harrison and Vanessa Whalen first met, John was Associate Professor of Violin at Wichita State University and Vanessa was a pianist accompanying his students. Instantly friends, they did not start dating until many years later. By then, John had developed a second career as an electrical and computer engineer and Vanessa was a psychotherapist in private practice. John proposed to Vanessa on Christmas morning 2014 and their first touch lamps were also gifted that year. The two built them in their basement to connect John's family members spread out across the US and Canada. John now works with nonprofits to assemble the lamps while contributing back to the community. By marrying Vanessa, John also gained two sons, Brendan and Sean. The family now enjoys a blended household of dogs, as well as a small school of goldfish. John and Vanessa also founded a startup which develops mobile apps for kids to help them learn about and manage their feelings.

Visit the blog for a Q&A session with John that touches on the beauty of code, the power of capacitive sensing, and much, much more.

Hi! So I love the idea of being able to touch the frame and that turning the light on in the other frame. In terms of the pictures, I've purchased something similar before, where it's a digital picture frame and you upload the pictures through an app. Based on the Q&A, am I to understand that only one person can upload photos? And do the photos in the frame change over time? How does that work? Thanks!

Verified reply from Allison

Anyone in your 'group' can send one photo through the app once you've downloaded the app and connected your frame to your WiFi. To change the photo, you'd need to send a new photo through the app. It doesn't automatically load another photo.

Do i need to be physically present with the frame to upload new photos to it? Does it require a laptop/USB thumbdrive? How many photos will it support? Can I update those images remotely via the app?

Verified reply from Michael

Hello! Currently, the Digital Frames only support displaying one picture, and the image can only be seen on your device. The image shown will be the one uploaded through your lamp manager, regardless of who from your group interacts with the frame. We’re actively working on improving this feature. If you have any other questions, feel free to let us know.

how do you pair a third device to the two already pre-paired?

Verified reply from Angelica

The single unit must be added to an existing group through the app. It will need to be set up and registered. From there, you can add the new unit to any group on your account, or request an invite to the group you want to join.

Where are the photos uploaded? Do you have to upload photos on something like Google drive in order to share to the device?

Verified reply from Madlen

Thank you for your question. You would connect the Bluetooth-enabled frame to WiFi and start uploading pictures with the free companion app. Hope this answers your question!

Does this work with different GHz connections (ie 2.4 and 5 GHz)?

Verified reply from Itamar

Great question! Yes, the Long Distance Interactive Friendship Frame works under various GHz connections.

Can you also change the photos displayed on each others frames? Or is it just the light that changes on the other frame?

Verified reply from Michelle

Hi! It is only the light that changes.

I am planning on purchasing one of these for my mom and one for my family. I see that I am unable to have it shipped outside of the US, but was hopeful that I would still be able to use one in Australia with a plug converter.

Verified reply from Allison

The use this outside of the US, you would need an adapter.
