The Experience

Join mixologist Cameroxn Calv for an immersive live virtual journey into the spirited history of whiskey—from Scotland’s misty hills to the distilleries of Japan and just about everywhere in between—while you learn how to make your own custom whiskey blends and craft three iconic cocktails.

  • Cameroxn will begin with a history of whiskey’s origins in the British Isles: who originally came up with it (spoiler alert: it depends who you ask!) and what the heck a single malt is anyway.
  • Then, you'll make a Scotch-based Blood and Sand while you learn how to identify the distinctive notes of this whiskey style and Cameroxn explains the ingredients from your Whiskey Making Kit (see "Comes with the class," below) that will work for your own signature Scotch blend.
  • Next up, American whiskey: the history of bourbon and rye and their cousin to the north, Canadian whiskey. You’ll make a classic Manhattan and discuss how to craft your signature bourbon blend.
  • Third, you’ll explore whiskey’s spread around the globe, including Japan, India, and even go Down Under to discover a Tasmanian distiller. You’ll also mix a highball and find out how to make a Japanese-style whiskey blend.
  • You’ll close the class by learning how to create your own 2–3 signature whiskey blends using the included kit, and explore other ways to become at-home whiskey makers.
Class length: 90 minutes.
Comes with the class: Our Whiskey Making Kit includes everything you need to craft batches of the richly flavored, amber liquor—just supply your own vodka (when it’s made from grains, it’s essentially the same as unaged whiskey).

Great presentation but lacking use of the kit

Cameron put on a dynamic and informative presentation. The cocktails made were delicious. The only drawback was the kit for making your own whiskey blends was not used and only briefly mentioned at the end.

Very fun class

Cameron was great. I loved his energy and humor. He shared enough knowledge about the subject (whiskey) with being pedantic. I learned a few things including how to make a Blood and Sand cocktail. I wouldn't mind learning to mix a few more cocktail recipes during a future session.

Fun class

Well, the class was a lot of fun and the presenter was very informative about the history of whiskeys, there wasn't a whole lot of time dedicated to actually making whiskey. In fact, it was the last five minutes when he said you can follow the recipes that came with the kit. It would've been nice to have a little bit more time to discuss the actual making of whiskey. Otherwise, I had a great time.

Cam provided an amazing experience while we were drinking cocktails that walked us through the history of whisk(e)y -- with or without the e. Learned so much about the evolution of cocktails and greatly appreciated his enthusiasm about the art behind cocktails and his perspective on what we should think about in or out of our home bar.
