Designed by Wisconsin-based makers Karen and Matt Wosoba, this ancient watering solution uses the natural porosity of terra-cotta to release water right where roots need it. Just bury the olla in your pot, fill it with water, and let it work its underground magic. The hand-glazed lid, available in Dark Blue or Peppermint Green, keeps debris out and charm in. Karen and Matt Wosoba are the husband-and-wife team behind a line of handmade ollas, crafted in their Menasha, Wisconsin, basement studio. High school sweethearts with a shared love of gardening and clay, they turned a side project into a full-time creative collaboration. Karen throws and glazes the lids, while Matt perfects the terra-cotta mix and casting. Their colorful, functional vessels are inspired by ancient irrigation methods. "There is so much creativity in growing stuff!" Karen says. Their work has connected them with fellow plant lovers across the country and has even made its way into school gardens and learning centers, where time-tested tradition meets modern, sustainable living.

recommend storing indoors for the winter. If this isn't possible, stop filling them about 6 weeks before the first hard freeze and leave the cover on to overwinter them in place.

A decorative olla

Appropriate size for a single plant pot. About the size of a Grande at starbucks in terms of capacity and size. I'm in zone 7b with dry, very strong sun and I refill this olla in a 1.5ft stone planter every few days. So far, it does its job by keeping the soil under the surface hydrated and cool. For seed starting, I still need to top-water daily for the first 1-2 weeks, and after that sometimes the seedlings seem to grow a little slower with the olla than with topwatering, but ultimately do well.

So beautiful!

I'll probably buy the blue color as well. Unfortunately my dogs bumped the table when they were playing right after I opened the package and the lid broke immediately. I was very sad. Because I loved it so much, I bought a new one to replace it. Worth it!

Like artwork for your plants

I have these in 9-10 inch pots and they work beautifully, keeping the plants watered just below the soil surface. I love these and so do the plants! They have very attractive glazed lids which sit approximately 1 1/2 inches above the soil. They actually compliment the plants foliage nicely. #Sweepstakes
