What Makes Pufferfish Impression Necklace Uncommon

The Japanese puffer fish knows a thing or two about making a good impression. To attract a mate, they spend a week creating intricate, mandala-like seafloor sculptures with their fins that can reach 7 feet in diameter. Inspired by the circles’ astonishing patterns (and the little creature’s dedication to love), Serena Van Rensselaer created a striking pendant necklace.

Serena Van Rensselaer's interest in jewelry began at a young age, when she became captivated by her grandmother's collection from around the world. After taking a metalsmithing class in Mexico, Serena was driven to explore the craft further and hone her skills, traveling and training throughout Europe and the Caribbean. Today, the New Jersey native works from her studio in Woodstock, New York, and describes it as a "magical and inspiring place attached to my home" that's surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty.
