Shopping early for Christmas
My husband loves astronomy and all things "sky." This is an early holiday gift, so I don't know if it is useful or easy to use, but I think he will like wearing it either way. Even during rainy Seattle winters he will think about fun astronomy times...

I purchased this watch for my 80 year old father who was a mathematician. He is having trouble figuring out how to set the watch and how it works. I cannot find additional instructions on line or on youtube. What do you recommend - are there additional information or instructions available? Thanks
Verified reply from Alice
Here is some additional information that may help your father figure out this super cool watch. PLANISPHERE FUNCTION: (1) Turn the bezel so the current time (the bottom of the rotating bezel has a time scale on it – you align this scale with the date on the tension ring) aligns with the date you wish to see the constellations for. This might be today, your birthday or tomorrow (!) (2) The tension ring is the scale along the edge of the watch. It is partially covered by the rotating bezel, but you can read the dates through the cut-outs of the bezel. (3) The major constellations visible (due to the small size, only the major constellations are represented on this Planisphere map) on the time and date you aligned with the bezel and tension ring are now visible in the cut-out of the bezel. This is the view from the Northern Hemisphere sky. North is at the bottom of the bezel, so that part of the watch should be facing north. (4) You can also use the Planisphere Watch as a compass. Find a constellation in the night sky and coordinate it with the North, East, South or West marks on the bezel.

Is the watch back lit to be able to be seen at night?
Verified reply from SiRandal
Greetings! Yes. This amazing watch has Super-LumiNova technology, which emits a photo-luminescent or afterglow for illuminating markings on watch dials, hands and bezels, etc. in the dark. This technology offers up to ten times higher brightness than zinc sulfide–based materials. I hope this info helps you. Thanks for shopping with us and Happy Holidays!

Does the bezel around the face of the watch turn so you can chart the planisphere watch to your specific location?
Verified reply from Sue
The bezel rotates to adjust the view for the date and time you are looking at the night sky. The Planisphere watch is accurate in the northern hemisphere from 35 - 50 degrees latitude. The majority of the continental USA runs from 30-50 degrees latitude (with the exception of the southern tips of Texas and Florida), as well as southern Europe, the Mediterranean, and Japan, to name a few places.

Is this a 24-hour watch
Verified reply from Marisa
Thanks for your question. We're not sure, but we think you're asking if it keeps military time, in 24 1-hour increments, and the answer to that is no. Our Planisphere Watch has conventional hands which tell time in the conventional way, albeit in a way-out setting! Thanks for shopping with UncommonGoods.
