Here’s a blast from the past to captivate wordsmiths and puzzle fans alike. First developed in 1882 as an educational toy, the intriguing word wheel has been out of production for generations. This all-new wooden version brings the original paper wheel back to life in a handsome design that’s as charming to look at as it is challenging to play.

  • Each wheel contains the alphabet A–Z in order. Arrange the wheels so at least two four-letter words appear at the same time.
  • It may seem easy, but it’s surprisingly difficult, with 17,576 possible unique positions of the wheels that will show more than 456,000 four-letter combinations.
  • Use any word that can be found in a standard English dictionary, but proper names, abbreviations, prefixes, and more are off-limits.
  • A spelling game, word search, and addictive brainteaser in one, the wheel also makes a fascinating tool for teachers of vocabulary and language skills.
  • Laser-cut and hand-assembled in Florida.

David Janelle was born in a rural area of Waterville, Maine, with six siblings and a love for puzzles. "Everything broke all the time," he says, "so learning to fix random items and building new ones became second nature." After many years as a mechanical engineer, he turned his favorite childhood activity into a family business by combining his puzzle passion with woodworking. Now based in Hudson, Florida, David creates screen-free forms of entertainment with his two sons and a dedicated team.

Not at all what it seems

Bought this as a gift. While it seem like like a fantastic idea and looks great in the pictures, it was very disappointing. It is fairly small, so the letters will difficult for those with vision issues. It is about 4 to 5 inches in diameter and each wheel stacked on top is smaller, which makes it different for those with motor skills issues. While it was made completely out of wood and seemed to be well made, I simply think the size wasn't worth the price.

The wooden game is light weight durable wood and very portable! It is fun engaging and challenging. Would buy again for diff vacation venues!
