What Makes It Uncommon

keyboard_arrow_up

Birthstones are more than just pretty jewels that accompany every month—they’re also associated with a person’s emotional qualities, like kindness, loyalty, and creativity. Artist Shaunda Hale incorporates these personality traits into her dazzling, gem-encrusted mixed-media pieces.

  • Every heart-shaped collage is made with real stones that represent the month’s associated birthstone.
  • Shaunda lists three positive qualities tied to each birthstone, plus the stone’s name and month.
    • January (Garnet): loving, tenacious, and loyal
    • February (Amethyst): caring, confident, and perceptive
    • March (Aquamarine): spirited, devoted, and kind
    • April (Clear Quartz, representing diamond): creative, assured, and reliable
    • May (Jade, representing emerald): clever, authentic, and purposeful
    • June (Moonstone, representing pearl): kindhearted, inspiring, and wise
    • July (Strawberry Quartz, representing ruby): caring, genuine, and positive
    • August (Peridot): radiant, committed, and poised
    • September (Lapis Lazuli, representing sapphire): determined, warm, and confident
    • October (Rose Quartz, representing pink tourmaline): loyal, thoughtful, and creative
    • November (Citrine, representing topaz): genuine, joyful, and resilient
    • December (Turquoise): insightful, honest, and courageous
  • Arrives in a shadowbox frame that measures 6"L x 1 1/2"W x 8"H.

Artist Shaunda Hale was inspired to start her creative journey after working as a corrections officer for 20 years and being surrounded by negativity. When she discovered rose quartz, the stone of universal love, she began carrying it with her everywhere as a reminder of its positive energy. Wanting to share the good vibes with the world, Shaunda began making cards as keepsakes in her home studio in Bloomfield, Connecticut, where she continues to hone her craft.
