With everything she makes, Vanessa Savlen attempts to strike a balance between chaos and pattern. She studied many art forms—from ceramics to painting to sculpture—at the University of Arizona in Tucson. While she still loves working with paint and clay, Vanessa’s main focus these days is on wearable art. "Jewelry is unique because it’s a natural way to transfer artistic expression from the designer to the wearer," she says. To gather inspiration, Vanessa travels around the world collecting beads and exotic gemstones. When she returns to her studio in Cape Ann, Massachusetts, she combines these new treasures with mixed metals and wires, weaving the materials into one. She hopes to make all of her pieces unexpected, fresh, and elegant.
