The typical American family uses 1,500 plastic bags every year. Nope, you didn’t read that wrong. But thanks to designer Lauren DiCioccio, you can cut down on waste and look really cool doing it. Her funky embroidered fabric bag was inspired by San Francisco's 2007 plastic bag ban. She keeps the same cheerful thank you messages on each bag, but uses recycled taffeta instead of plastic. (Bonus: It’s machine washable.) Take one out next time you're shopping or send the fun design to your best earth-loving friend so they can reuse and reduce ‘til their heart’s content. Made in San Francisco.

Empathy, nostalgia, and joy. If you ask artist Lauren DiCioccio why she creates, she'll probably point to one of these emotions. The San Francisco-based designers works with lots of different mediums from cloth to clay. She says her work explores the expressive qualities of cloth and thread, and she uses almost exclusively those materials to craft a range of art pieces. Lauren has exhibited at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, the Laguna Art Museum, and the Bellevue Arts Museum among others. She lives and works in San Francisco.

A fun replacement for your baggu shopping bag!

Limiting the amount of plastic bags used is done by carrying a spare shopping bag. In, NYC you are always scheppling extra items around. No car to place items in. So having a lightweight, spare bag helps immensely. White might not be the best color choice for NYC - it gets dirty. But it is a nice change from black.

Absolutely LOVE this tote! I got in the black and white (l couldn't decide so I bought both). I had done a purge of all the canvas totes I've acquired over the years, and needed one "go to" to have in my purse when I need it. I LOVE that it looks exactly like the plastic corner store bags, I get compliments constantly when I use them. Lightweight, durable and great quality. Don't think twice, just GET IT!

Cute bag, excited to use in NYC now that the bag ban is in effect. Some of the embroidery is a little fuzzy/pulled looking but not so much that I would return it.

I bought this to keep in my suitcase. It's perfect! I use it for shopping trips while I'm on the road and even as a beach bag when I go to the hotel pool. High quality construction and it's lightweight. I love it!
