Care
Before first use, make sure to cure the barrel for three to five days, as mentioned in the instructions. Clean with damp cloth; use included Swish Barrel Cleaning Kit periodically as instructed. When not aging liquor, use sterilization tablets as instructed. Take care when using cleaning tablets?use only as directed; harmful if swallowed.

Each essence will flavor one liter. As this kit comes with three essences, three total liters can be made.

A fun gift!
This is a birthday gift for my 25 y.o. son. He loves rum, so this was perfect. He was very excited to start this project, and we were both happy that he can always purchase more supplies. Have not gotten to the finished product yet, but the process is fun. The keg was a bit smaller than I thought, but there are probably dimensions I didn't look at.

Has the seller/shipper fixed the leaking issue? I noticed numerous reviews mention the essence bottles were leaking upon arrival. I'd like to get this but only if packaging has changed to address this problem as I do not want to bother with getting disappointed and upset, spending time to figure out who to contact to address this issue and contact them, and then wait for a replacement with the risk it will be leaking as well. Thank you!

Yes! The essence packaging has been completely changed to address the leakage issues we experienced earlier in the year. We have not had any issues since we changed packaging, which is reflected in the most recent review!

How many times can you use the barrel?

You can actually use the barrel many times, but only the first few will impart an oak flavor. Eventually the barrel becomes neutral with respect to the flavor imparted to the whiskey. While different people experience different results, we generally have heard that customers have enjoyed aging whiskey in the barrel two to three times, and have for subsequent uses enjoyed aging other products when not looking for as rich of an oak profile. When not aging liquor, use sterilization tablets as instructed. Take care when using cleaning tablets - Use Only As Directed - Harmful if swallowed. Clean with damp cloth; use included Swish Barrel Cleaning Kit periodically as instructed.
