Care

Each plant will come with a care card
Planting Location: Choose a sunny spot with well-draining soil. Pomegranates thrive in full sun, needing at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Soil: They prefer slightly acidic to neutral pH soil (5.5 to 7.0) & soil that is not heavy with clay. Watering Young Plants: Water deeply and regularly during the first year to establish a strong root system. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Pomegranates are drought-tolerant but produce better fruit with consistent watering. Water every 7-10 days during dry periods. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced fertilizer (such as 10-10-10) in early spring before new growth starts. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can lead to excessive foliage growth at the expense of fruit production. Organic compost can be added annually to improve soil health.

Notes

Pruning: Prune to shape the tree and remove any weak or crossing branches. Aim to maintain an open center to allow light penetration and air circulation. After the tree is established, prune lightly each year in late winter to remove dead or diseased wood. Pest and Disease Management: Watch for aphids, whiteflies, and pomegranate butterflies. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil if infestations occur. Pomegranates can be affected by root rot if the soil is too wet. Ensure proper drainage to prevent this. Harvesting: Pomegranates are ready in late summer to early fall when they have fully colored. Cut the fruit from the tree rather than pulling it to avoid damaging the fruit or tree. Winter Care: Pomegranates can tolerate mild frost but may need protection in areas with severe winters. Mulch around the base of the tree and consider covering young trees with frost cloth. By following these tips, your pomegranates should grow healthy and produce abundant, flavorful fruit.
