Great Gift
I bought this for my aunt, who loves salsa and tacos. She loves this little garden because she gets to grow her own ingredients. It makes it feel more special to grow it yourself, but it's still in a convenient kit. #sweepstakes

Do I need to grow them in the carton or can I start with a larger pot?
Verified reply from Angelica
As this is a starter kit, we recommend starting with the carton. Once the seedlings have outgrown the carton, you can transfer them to larger pots as they continue to grow.

do they have to be planted outdoors? i want to get this as a christmas gift for my best friends mom, but we live in alaska
Verified reply from Alice
They do not have to be planted outdoors as long as they can get 8 hours of full sun, else you would need a greenhouse. The challenge will be with the tomatoes; growing small tomatoes indoors is not too difficult, however the larger Romas and even larger Beefsteaks included in this kit are more challenging. Bottom line is: unless your friend's mom is super into gardening and has the patience to give the extra TLC that these need to grow indoors, I would not recommend it.

1.)Cut off the top of the container at the hinge and use it as a sort-of tray underneath the egg carton. 2.) Place soil pellets in a bowl (remove netting if there is any). Add 1 cup of warm water and the pellets will turn into soil. Distribute into the 12 growing compartments. 3.) Divide each packet of seeds between 2 compartments. Cover with soil and water daily (but don't over water). 4.) Use the Wooden ID Sticks to label/identify your seeds. 5.) When the seedlings are about 3" tall, move to a larger container and place in the sun. If the weather is warm enough (70 degrees Fahrenheit), they can be placed outdoors. 6.) Transplant to larger containers as needed. They like their elbow room. 7.) Use compost or fertilizer for maximum growth. 8.) Enjoy!

How big of pots do they need to be transferred into once they outgrow the egg carton? Once transferred, can they be grown successfully inside?
Verified reply from Martin
These plants can grow big in a matter of months, so use decent sized pots. Tomato plants do well in 20 gallon pots. The other plants can handle pots that are a little smaller. In general, plants love the largest containers possible in order to stretch their roots and soak up water. You can grow these plants inside, but it's trickier and typically results in smaller fruits compared with outdoor plants. The goal is to simulate daytime sunlight and warmth as best as possible. A local gardener would be the best expert on all these things.

Would I be able to send this product to an APO address in Germany as a gift? Not asking the company to ship it but if I shipped it personally?
Verified reply from Martin
You'll be able to send it yourself, but please research any possible mailing restrictions. UncommonGoods unfortunately can't make shipments directly to APO addresses.

I want to order this for a christmas gift. how many days before christmas can I order this? is there something in it that can go bad if I order it now?
Verified reply from Marisa
There's nothing that could go bad in this kit. It's just seeds, starter soil and planters - no tomatoes. The seeds will slowly lose germination potency over time, but that would take a year or so to begin. They will be absolutely fine if you order, now, and if you want to make sure we don't run out of these, we recommend ordering as soon as you can.

Hello - Once the plants have outgrown their initial home - can they finish growing indoors in bigger pots? Thank you
Verified reply from Ali
Thank you for your question! As this is a starter kit, once the seedlings have outgrown their first home you can transfer them to larger pots as they continue to grow.
