In the center of Saronno, Italy, nestled within the stone walls of a 17th-century Franciscan cloister, a sweet tradition has endured for over 300 years. Chiostro di Saronno—Cloister of Saronno—is both the name of the historic monastery and the home of the Lazzaroni family’s legendary amaretti cookies. Made from a simple mix of traditional ingredients, these crisp, airy bites carry a delicately bittersweet flavor and a story that spans generations.
